Ohio driver’s deadly gun battle with police caught on dashboard cam

Written by Dirrty3rd
The terrifying moment that a crazed Ohio driver unleashed 37 rounds from an AK-47 was caught on a police cruiser’s dashboard camera. But whatever caused 42-year-old James Gilkerson to spray bullets at cops during a March 10 traffic stop remains a mystery, Middlefield police said Friday. Gilkerson was k!lled during the exchange of gunfire. “He got out of the vehicle, intending to k!ll my officers. We don’t know why he did it,” said Police Chief Arnold Stanko, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Stanko also released a statement that said prosecutors found the shooting by police officers justified. Gilkerson was initially pulled over in the Cleveland suburb of Middlefield after he blew through a stop sign, cops said. One of the officers, Erin Thomas, was outside of the cruiser on the driver’s side, while the other, Brandon Savage, was sitting inside the car the moment Gilkerson's rampage began. The video shows Gilkerson exiting the Saturn sedan with an AK-47 in his hands. The bullets ripped through the police cruiser’s windshield during the frightening late-afternoon fusillade. The two cops shot at Gilkerson with 54 rounds. At one point, he shouted, “Kill me!” police said. By the end of the gun battle, Gilkerson was lying on the ground. Thomas suffered a hand injury in the battle and later lost a finger, while Savage was taken to the hospital for a minor leg injury. Gilkerson, who was unemployed and spent his days caring for his elderly mother, was the aggressor, police said. “He was a scumbag and a terrorist, and he’s dead,” Stanko said. While a motive for Gilkerson’s madness remains unclear, officials said items found inside of the Saturn reveal a sinister side. Cops recovered eight 40-round magazines and books titled “Backyard Rocketry: Converting Model Rockets Into Explosive Missiles,” “Advanced Close-range Gun Fighting” and “Homemade Detonators: How To Make Them.” Geauga County prosecutor Jim Flaiz said a black ski mask and black leather gloves were also found inside the car, which belongs to Gilkerson’s mom. “When you see what he had, how much ammunition he had, and how he reacted to being pulled over by the police, certainly I think you can speculate that these officers might have prevented a tragedy down the road,” Flaiz told NBC affiliate WKYC. Police interviewed Gilkerson’s mom, but she had no explanation for his violent outburst, the station said.

Hospitalized b0mbing suspect says he and brother acted alone, motivated by religion

Written by Dirrty3rd

The hospitalized Boston Marathon b0mbing suspect charged Monday with using a weapon of mass destruction has told investigators that he and his brother were motivated by religion but were not in contact with overseas terrorists or groups, officials said.

Several officials familiar with the initial interrogation of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev described his behavior during questioning as cooperative.

A senior government official said Tsarnaev has told investigators — by writing some answers down, and by nodding yes or shaking his head no to others — that he and his brother were not in touch with any overseas terrorists or groups.

Tsarnaev, who has injuries to his tongue preventing him from speaking properly, also indicated that he and his brother conceived the b0mbing attack on their own, and were motivated by religious fervor.

Earlier on Monday, the White House said he will be tried in a civilian court.

Dzokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was charged Monday with using a weapon of mass destruction in connection with the Boston Marathon b0mbing.
“He will not be treated as an enemy combatant. We will prosecute this terrorist through our civilian system of justice,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.

“Under U.S. law, United States citizens cannot be tried in military commissions. And it is important to remember that since 9/11 we have used the federal court system to convict and incarcerate hundreds of terrorists.”

Tsarnaev, 19, a naturalized U.S. citizen of Chechen origin, made his initial court appearance at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.

He was advised of his rights and charged with one count of using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction in the U.S. and one count of malicious destruction of property with an explosive device.

He was[..]igned three federal public defenders. The charges could carry the [rip] penalty.

The suspect agreed to "voluntary detention," but declined to answer questions about bail, according to a court record. A probable cause hearing was set for May 30.

"Today's charges bring a successful end to a tragic week for the city of Boston and for our country," Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement.

"We will hold those who are responsible for these heinous acts accountable to the fullest extent of the law."

A criminal complaint laid out some of the evidence against Tsarnaev, who was arrested Friday after a daylong manhunt, and his brother, Tamerlan, who was k!lled during a firefight with police.

A black jacket and white hat, matching the ones worn by "Suspect No. 2" in surveillance video, were found in the younger brother's dorm room, along with green strands of fuse like those used in the marathon explosives that k!lled three and wounded more than 170.

The video also captured the suspect making a cellphone call seconds before the first b0mb exploded on the east end of Boylston St. during last Monday's race, and his utter calm in the face of spreading panic, the complaint said. The footage showed him hurrying away from his knapsack just 10 seconds before a blast erupted where he left it.

Tsarnaev was brought to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the head, neck, leg and hand. He had been communicating with investigators in writing because he couldn't speak, federal officials told NBC News.

The FBI has not officially revealed a motive for the attack last Monday that k!lled three people -- one of whom, Krystle Campbell, was laid to rest in Medford on Monday. Investigators are still probing whether the brothers received[..]istance from others, officials said.

The feds have asked to speak with Tamerlan's wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, who converted to Islam after she met her future husband at a nightclub. She dropped out of college, got married and had a baby three years ago.

The FBI would like to speak to Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, seen here leaving the Cambridge house where she lived with husband Tamerlan Tsarnaev, her lawyer says.
Her lawyer, Amato DeLuca, told The[..]ociated Press he was trying to work out the details of an interview.

His client, he said, worked up to 80 hours a week as a home health aide while Tamerlan watched their daughter. He said she didn't have any suspicions he might be plotting something.

He said she last saw her husband at home on Thursday morning, hours before he and his younger brother allegedly executed a campus police officer, pulled off the carjacking, and led police on a wild b0mb-tossing chase that ended in a 200-bullet gun battle.

The carjacking victim told police his abductor asked if he'd heard of the marathon b0mbing and then said "I did that."

The man, who has asked that his identity not be revealed, told NBC News that he managed to escape and called his captors “brutal and cautious.”

The victim told police the two men said they "would not k!ll him because he wasn’t American," according to a police report obtained by NBC News.

Boston's top police official said Monday that while there are many unanswered questions, the city can rest easy.

"We're satisfied the two main actors, the people that were committing the damage out there, have been either captured or k!lled," Police Commissioner Ed Davis said on TODAY.

"There is still an open question as to exactly what happened in this investigation," he said. "We can't say with 100 percent certainty...anything, actually, at this point."

Among the mysteries Tsarnaev could solve is what his brother did when he traveled to Russia last year and who he met.

Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said on “Meet the Press” that trip could be when Tamerlan "got that final radicalization to push him to commit acts of violence and where he may have received training."

FBI, Homeland Security and counterterrorism officials on Tuesday will provide a classified briefing to members of Congress on the Boston Marathon b0mbings.

Authorities are also trying to figure out where the suspects got their b0mb-making supplies and guns. Cambridge Police said neither one had the necessary permits to carry firearms.

Immigration officials have arrested two of Tamerlan Tsarnaev's friends on immigration violations, days after they were detained and questioned by police in New Bedford, Mass.

As part of a handover ceremony, the FBI presented Mayor Thomas Menino with an American flag that flew at half-staff over the Boston Marathon finish line.

4.2 million for women mistakenly shot by LAPD looking for chris dorner

Written by Dirrty3rd

The city of Los Angeles will pay $4.2 million to the two women injured when police mistakenly opened fire on their truck during the manhunt for Christopher Dorner, a disgruntled ex-LAPD police officer who killed four people in a rampage that kept Southern California on heightened alert for days.

LA City Attorney Carmen Trutanich confirmed Tuesday to NBC4 that a deal has been reached with Margie Carranza and her mother, Emma Hernandez.

"The deal is relatively a very simple, very clean deal. It's a win-win for both parties," Trutanich said. "It closes this chapter in Los Angeles and LAPD history on all issues."

The $4.2 million will be split between the two women "any way they want," Trutanich said.

The shooting happened Feb. 7 about 5 a.m. as the pair was delivering newspapers in their Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue in the Torrance area. Earlier in the day, two Riverside officers were ambushed in their police car, and authorities were on the hunt for Dorner and his Nissan Titan.

Hernandez, 71, was shot twice in the back and Carranza, 47, was injured by broken glass.

The search for Dorner ended Feb. 12 with a shootout and standoff in the Big Bear area.

Dorner was holed up in a cabin surrounded by authorities when a police tear gas canister shot into the residence started a fire. Dorner then shot and killed himself, according to deputies.

Punch a cop poop your pants Florida

Written by Dirrty3rd

Authorities say William Liddell wouldn't go down without a fight -- or without pooping his pants.

Deputies caught up to Liddell, of Golden Gate Fla., on Tuesday after witnesses said they saw him smash into a car with his van and then flee the scene, according to the Naples News.

When the deputy approached Liddell's van, he said he thought he heard Liddell mumble, "Oh sh-t," according to a police report obtained by The Huffington Post.

As the deputy got closer, Liddell threw his van into reverse and punched the officer in the face, the report said. The two allegedly exchanged blows and, after backup arrived to join in the tussle with Liddell, he was eventually subdued.

While taking photos of Liddell and his injuries, the deputy noticed that the suspect "had defecated in his pants during the incident," the report said.

Liddell faces a litany of offenses including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, two counts of resisting an officer with violence, DUI, driving while license suspended and possessing a canceled driver's license.
